A few months ago we surprised the kids with the news that we were taking them to Disney World this summer. Disney World has been on our bucket list for years, and we are so excited to finally make that dream a reality.
We knew we wouldn’t be able to go to Disney World right away, so we gifted our kids with a “Countdown to Disney World” gift that included invitations to a monthly “Disney-World-Inspired-Family-Theme-Night” leading up to our trip. These nights include a yummy themed dinner, craft or activity and then a yummy dessert to eat while watching the Disney movie that went along with the theme.
(You can find all our Countdown to Disney World posts linked HERE.)
This month we journeyed to the Magic Kingdom to visit Snow White’s Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Below I’ll share all the details of the night, and at the very bottom don’t forget to grab your FREE printables we made for the Wicked Witch’s Poison Apple Potion & Our Snow White Family Dinner and Movie Night itinerary printable complete with the menu, craft, and dessert.
Decor: The Seven Dwarfs Mine
I started my inspiration for the theme night with the Seven Dwarfs Mine. I hunted for quite a bit online to see if anyone had a tutorial or explanation of how to make a fake party “mine” and surprise-surprise, there apparently isn’t a high demand for seven dwarf mine tutorials. So I had to come up with something myself. I asked some teacher friends where I could find a lot of brown paper, and many recommended party supply stores or home improvement stores. I bought a huge ream of brown paper for $8 at Lowes.
How Did I Do It? Crumple up brown paper to make crinkley and then tape up the crinkly parts to the wall. Once the walls were up of the ‘mine’ I let the kids tape up small plastic jewels in the mine.
Snow White Decor
I had leftover brown paper that I turned into trees to give it a forest vibe. I repurposed Christmas decor that also fit the theme with red plate chargers and napkin rings I got from Hobby Lobby a while ago. I found some Christmas garland that I used as the table centerpiece and added pinecones and apples and candles to give it a fun feel.
Snow White Themed Food
Snow White Stew – Cook up your favorite stew recipe. This is one of our favorites – we don’t add peas.
Poison Apple Potion – Jones’ green apple soda
Bashful’s Biscuits – Store bought yumminess
Evil Queen’s Poison Apples – This recipe w/ toppings we had on hand. We did a mix of stick carmel apples and apple nachos.
Magic Mirror Craft
Before the movie we pulled out some acrylic paint and let the kids color their magic mirrors. I had sticker jewels that they put around the edges once the paint was dry. This was surprisingly a big hit with all the kids. I wasn’t sure my boys would find it fun. (I told them the shapes were like Pokemon and I think that helped. hehe)
Overall – a super fun night for the whole fam. And it was Annabelle’s first time watching the movie Snow White.
FREE POISON APPLE PRINTABLE – For Personal Use Only. We had to “print to page” in order to get them to print the size we wanted.
You can get our Snow White Menu Itinerary here to throw your own fun night with your family.
